Child Life Practicum and Internship

Child Life Practicum

Our integrated child life practicum is based on our program partnership with the Child Life Program at MUSC Children's Health. Practicum is integrated with coursework during the first three semesters of study. Over the fall, spring, and summer semesters, students work alongside the Certified Child Life Specialists at the hospital to complete over 100 hours of close mentorship, observation, and facilitation of activities throughout the hospital. In addition, our students are challenged to independently develop effective play programming for children and adolescents, design an entire thematic special day program for the Atrium (our large main playroom), and develop and present a child life resource for patients, families, or medical care providers.

Child Life Internship

Our program is structured to provide educational and community-based experiences to best prepare our students for the competitive process of internship selection and for successfully passing the child life Certification Examination and securing their first position as a child life specialist.
